TORONTO — A fixed-price contract of $138.6 million has been awarded to GIP HWY 3 Inc. to design, build and finance the Highway 3 Widening Project from Essex to Leamington.
The announcement was made recently by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Transportation.
Early works are underway and design work will begin immediately. Construction is expected to start in 2024.
The project will widen Highway 3 from two to four lanes from Arner Townline (Essex Road 23) near the Town of Essex to Union Avenue (Essex Road 34) near the Town of Leamington.Â
The GIP HWY 3 team includes GIP Paving Inc. (developer); Dillon Consulting Ltd. and WSP (design team); and GIP Paving Inc. (formerly Coco Paving Inc.) (construction team).
The Highway 3 Widening Project has undergone an open, fair and competitive procurement process overseen by a third-party fairness adviser, indicates a release, adding the project is being delivered through IO’s design, build and finance public-private partnership model.
Travellers are expected to have full use of the improved highway by 2027.
